An Amazing Replica at the Citadelle of Dinant

The citadelle of Dinant, Belgium, a fortress overlooking the Meuse valley, has a unique piece of aviation history on display.

It is a replica of the Fairey Fox, a British light bomber and fighter aircraft that was used by the Belgian Air Force in the 1930s.

The original plane was piloted by Captain Fernand Jacquet, a hero of the First World War and a native of Dinant.

He flew the Fairey Fox on several missions against the German invasion in 1940, before being shot down and captured. He later escaped from a prisoner of war camp and joined the Resistance.

The replica was built by a group of enthusiasts and donated to the citadelle in 2003, where it stands as a tribute to Jacquet and his fellow airmen.
